‘We have become so boring as a city,” he said. ‘I want to become a city of excitement. We are looking to reinstate every parade, every festival, every block party. People need to get outdoors and enjoy our city again.’

In a video message to the besieged nation, Zelensky accused the Kremlin of attempting to seize the capital, overthrow the government and install a ‘puppet’ regime ‘like in Donetsk’, one of two separatist regions which warmonger Vladimir Putin officially recognised before launching an all-out invasion. 

Adams confirmed prior reports that the United States’ most populous city will finally lift mandates on masks in public schools and proof of vaccination to dine in restaurants or enter entertainment, sports and cultural venues from Monday.

Bottoms, who served as mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022, previously blamed the 50 percent increase in homicides in 2021 on lax gun laws, teenagers having too much free time on their hands and the state lifting its COVID-19.

‘Until we deal with the systemic issues of gun violence in this country – how easily young people with mental illness can access guns in this country, I’m afraid that this will not be the last summer that we are having this conversation,’  Bottoms told  .

‘I’m hoping we can change the expectations society has for women. The [comments] I love are those from other women who’ve struggled with their pregnancy bodies. I’ve been told it’s uplifting and they’re glad I’m staying positive!’

A pregnant woman has shared some of the ‘hilarious’ comments that she receives from people about her extra large bump – including one person who joked that her baby was living in ‘a loft with WiFi’ inside of her belly, and another who wrote that she was carrying a ‘whole adult’ in there.

‘I saw one man run across the yard towards the apartment block and a shell land next to him, which blew his leg off. We were afraid to help him in case we were killed and there were no ambulances.’ She does not know if he survived or not.

Brooke said that at her 35-week checkup, she was told that her unborn baby – a boy who was due on March 2 – was measuring right on track at six pounds, four ounces – which is actually smaller than one of her previous pregnancies.  

Despite the city’s reputation for obstinance, Adams said that New York business were 90 per cent in compliance with restrictions pandemic restrictions that were placed on them, including limited hours, restricted capacity for stores, worker safety protocols and other regulations.

The former mayor also said the pandemic ‘left a lot of people battered and bruised, not just physically, but also emotionally,’ which led to an increase in personal disputes that could easily be exacerbated by guns.

The couple were taken the next day to a hospital where medics have kept working despite the building also being struck by shelling. By this time there was a stream of people searching Mariupol for missing relatives.

‘We want to see the faces of our children. We want to see their smiles,’ the mayor said, adding that parents with kids over the age of five could still send their children to school with face coverings if they wished.

It is so horrible when you hear the shell flying towards you and you have no idea where it will land – then you’re so relieved it does not land on your building. They finally managed to flee on Tuesday after seeing another family escape the previous day in their car.
