Biden steps up attack on GOP budget as hurting Americans

The Republican senator said that he would ‘interpret your answer’ as being critical of late liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and retiring liberal Justice Breyer, who both said they opposed the notion of court packing.

Mr Johnson’s comments came after Defence minister James Heappey insisted the bombing of a maternity hospital in Ukraine was a war crime as he called for Mr Putin and Russian generals to be held to account.

Now Gascon, a fierce opponent of the death penalty, who is also facing a second recall attempt from opponents who have criticized his soft-on-crime approach, is seeking to reduce Collins’ sentence from the death penalty to life without the possibility of parole. 

Figures from the recent poll, which was taken March 18-21, are similar to those from February as voters are more distracted with economic issues like inflation and gas prices than the Supreme Court nominee.  

‘So, what matters beyond the outrage of the fact that this has happened in the first place is to make sure all this is catalogued so when – and they surely will be – President Putin and everybody in the military chain of command beneath him – because war crimes are committed at every level not just the ultimate decisionmaker – people will be held to account for what they are doing in. It’s utterly despicable.’

‘It’s the debt ceiling negotiations that oftentimes force the biggest budget reforms, which have been really important for our country,’ Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, a member of GOP leadership, said to Punchbowl News on Monday.

When Bettinger arrived for the 5pm hearing, her lawyer, counselor, and Bryant’s lawyer and counselor was pulled into a meeting to discuss the instruction, but it was later dismissed and the panel continued with the instructions they were given. 

‘People underestimated what the House Republicans could accomplish, and we’ve really set the agenda,’ the third highest ranking House Republican said. ‘We are playing our role as the as the last backstop for the American people from single party Democrat rule.’

Bettinger’s lawyer Charles Weber has sent a letter to the President to overrule it, which was ignored. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) also sent a letter, which President Jim Ryan said it would be ‘inappropriate for me to intervene in a case that has been properly adjudicated.’ 

Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s deputy Prime Minister, said there can be ‘no doubt’ the hospital was deliberately ‘targeted’ by Russia in a chilling echo tactics used during the bombing of the Syrian city of Aleppo while Putin’s men were fighting alongside dictator Basahr al-Assad’s troops.

Bryant also filed a complaint with the school’s Office for Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights (EOCR), where the student activist claimed Bettinger had made the statement five times and had discriminated against Bryant on the basis of race. 

It’s unknown yet if that perspective will shift following the nominees first day of yielding questions for senators, especially as the GOP signals they could have some aggressive lines of attack – including on Jackson’s record on sentencing in child porn cases.

‘So, judge, you should be proud of your faith. I am convinced whatever faith you have and however often you go to church will not affect your ability to be fair,’ he said. ‘And I just hope going in the future that we all can accept that and that Judge Barrett, I felt, was treated very, very poorly. So, I just wanted to get that out.’

Gascon’s office argues that Collins’ good behavior, lack of ‘serious rule violations in more than 20 years’, and the fact that his crime only had ‘one victim,’ should grant him the opportunity to avoid the death penalty.
